Future of Education in Africa Conference 2025 Report Released: A Call for Bold Action on Africa's Education Future
Building a Sustainable Educational Future for a Resilient and Inclusive Africa
The African Center for Youth Development, Education and Advocacy Initiative (ACYDEAI) is pleased to announce the release of the official report of the 5th Annual Future of Education in Africa Conference 2025, held on 4 December 2025 at the Executive Conference Hall of the Federal Ministry of Education Headquarters, Abuja, Nigeria.
Held under the theme:
“Building a Sustainable Educational Future for a Resilient and Inclusive Africa: Evaluating CESA 2016–2025 Performance”
the conference brought together policymakers, educators, youth leaders, development partners, researchers, private sector actors, and education advocates from across Africa and beyond to evaluate the progress of the Continental Education Strategy for Africa (CESA 2016–2025) and chart a pathway for the next decade of educational transformation.
Why This Report Matters
Africa stands at a critical moment in its educational journey.
While the continent has recorded significant gains in school enrolment and access to education over the past decade, major challenges remain in areas such as:
- Digital inclusion and connectivity
- Teacher quality and professional development
- Skills development and TVET modernization
- Education financing
- Research and innovation
- Youth employability and workforce readiness
- Gender and social inclusion
The report provides a comprehensive assessment of these issues and presents actionable recommendations for governments, development partners, educational institutions, civil society organizations, and youth leaders.
Key Highlights from the Conference
1. Evaluating CESA 2016–2025
Participants reviewed the implementation of the Continental Education Strategy for Africa and acknowledged progress in access to education while identifying persistent gaps in quality, digital readiness, and financing.
2. Bridging the Digital Divide
One of the strongest messages emerging from the conference was the urgent need to accelerate digital transformation in African education systems.
The report highlights that many schools across the continent still lack reliable internet connectivity, limiting access to digital learning opportunities and emerging technologies such as Artificial Intelligence (AI).
3. Education and Workforce Readiness
The conference emphasized the growing mismatch between educational outcomes and labour market demands.
Participants called for:
- Stronger Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET)
- Industry-academia partnerships
- Entrepreneurship education
- AfCFTA-aligned skills development
- Expanded apprenticeship opportunities
4. Youth as Partners in Transformation
With youth participation increasing significantly compared to previous editions, the conference reinforced the need for young people to move beyond being beneficiaries of educational policies to becoming active drivers of reform and innovation.
Six Strategic Pillars for Post-2025 Education Transformation
The report proposes six major pillars to guide Africa’s education agenda beyond 2025:
- Curriculum Reform
- Digital Transformation
- TVET Modernization
- Governance and Accountability
- Financing and Partnerships
- Inclusion and Community Engagement
Together, these pillars provide a roadmap for building education systems that are resilient, inclusive, future-ready, and responsive to Africa’s development aspirations.
Major Conference Outcomes
Among the notable outcomes were commitments to:
- Strengthen education quality and learning outcomes
- Expand digital learning infrastructure
- Increase youth representation in education governance
- Promote cross-border educational collaboration under AfCFTA
- Enhance public-private partnerships in education
- Improve accountability and implementation of education policies
Looking Ahead
As Africa prepares for the next phase of educational transformation, the report serves as both a reflection on past achievements and a practical guide for future action.
The future of African education will depend not only on policies and declarations but also on collective commitment, sustained investment, innovation, and measurable implementation.
The 2025 conference reaffirmed a shared belief:
Africa’s 600 million young people deserve an education system designed for the future—not inherited from the past.
